I’ve been thinking of doing something like this to remove and  store a canoe in my garage. 

This is the only practical way to have a roof tent.

There is a nice setup that has four pulleys and and a couple straps that hook to the garage ceiling.  I used one for a lift to store my kids power wheels over my parking space.  Nice piece of kit.
